About Hokuō®
My name is Christian, and I started Hokuō® in early 2023 out of a deep passion for our pets, honesty in production, and a love for two cultures close to my heart — the simplicity of Japanese life and the rootedness of Scandinavia.
I live in the countryside of Denmark with my 13 Shiba Inus, and every product I make is something I personally use and believe in.
I started Hokuō® because I couldn’t find what I was looking for in the pet industry — clear sourcing, honest communication, and products made with real intention.
Too many brands said “made in Europe,” but couldn’t back it up. Too many treats were made from category 3 waste. I believed — and still believe — our pets deserve better.
So I decided to create a brand that reflects what I care about: traceability, quality, and true transparency. No shortcuts. Just products I trust enough to give my own dogs, every single day.
“Hokuō” means Nordic in Japanese. It’s a term often used to describe the Scandinavian countries — and especially Denmark.
For me, it perfectly represents the blend of influences behind the brand: rooted in the values of Scandinavia, and deeply inspired by the calm, intentional way of life I experienced in Japan.

Ingredients & Production
Yes. Our freeze-dried treats are biologically raw. The process gently removes moisture without using heat, so the nutritional profile of the original raw ingredient stays intact.
Freeze-drying is a preservation method — not a cooking process. We freeze the raw ingredient, then remove moisture in a vacuum chamber. This means the treats retain their original structure, nutrients, scent, and taste — without the need for additives, preservatives or heat.
It’s the closest you can get to raw — just with the water taken out.
Yes — always. We only use 100% human-grade raw materials. That includes how it’s sourced, stored, transported and produced. If it’s not good enough for us, it’s not good enough for your pet. We never use category 3 off-cuts, waste or byproducts.
Yes. All our products are made in certified human-grade facilities and regularly tested in labs for safety and nutritional insight. We also require full traceability and documentation from our suppliers. We work closely with our production teams to know exactly what goes into every batch — from raw material to finished product.
We source exclusively within Europe. That meanstrulywithin Europe — not from third countries resold through European vendors. Our main sourcing countries are Norway, Finland, and Estonia. We believe in supporting high welfare standards and working directly with trusted suppliers who can back it up with real documentation.
Yes. Every product is made in Europe, and always in human-grade facilities. We work with several trusted partners depending on the product — all chosen for their knowledge, traceability, and shared commitment to quality.
We don’t use fillers, preservatives, flavour enhancers, or colourings. No hidden extras. Just the raw materials your pet actually needs — nothing more.

Yes. Because our treats are made with minimal, high-quality ingredients and no additives, they’re gentle by nature. Many customers use them for puppies, older pets, or those with allergies. That said, every pet is different — always start small and see how your pet responds.
Absolutely. Our treats and toppers can be added to raw, dry, or wet food — or used on lick mats and enrichment tools. They’re an easy way to add flavour and nutrition to your pet’s existing routine.
All our products are shelf-stable and don’t require refrigeration before opening. Just store them in a cool, dry place.
Freeze-dried treats: Reseal after opening and use within 3–4 weeks for best freshness.
Bone broth: Unopened, it lasts up to 18 months at room temperature. After opening, keep it refrigerated and use within 5 days.
Supplements: Shelf life varies between 12–36 months. After opening, reseal tightly. You can store them in the fridge for longer-lasting freshness.

Yes — we ship across Europe, including Norway, Switzerland, and the UK.
We aim to ship your order within 1–3 working days.

In Denmark, we ship with GLS(ParcelShop & Home Delivery).

Yes, you’re welcome to pick up your order from our warehouse in 6650 Brørup, Denmark. Just select the pickup option at checkout.
